I know there is probably already too much hype surrounding the iPad, but when I first saw it I thought it would be useful as a presentation device. It won't run powerpoint but will run iWorks and would be less cumbersome than a laptop. This article talks about it being an eTextbook reader, though at $500 I don't know how viable it would be.

The Teaching and Learning Center is hosting the ACRL/TLT workshop, "Collaboration for Information Literacy: Faculty Learning Communities and Other Collaborative Approaches to Support and Improve Undergraduate Information Literacy" this semester, and the first session, "The How and Why of Faculty Learning Communities Working in Support of Undergraduate Information Literacy" begins at noon on Feb. 18. Subsequent sessions in this series are at noon on February 25 (Collaborative Approach for Faculty to Assess and Study and Improve Information Literacy Activities in Their Courses) and March 11 (Implementation Models - Successful Collaborative Approaches to Improving Undergrad Information Literacy) and will convene in Library 110 at noon. Yammer
NPR had a story on Yammer yesterday, a social networking tool like Twitter but aimed at corporate use instead of personal use. It might be just right for synchronous online discussions or "virtual" office hours.
